Mentorship can be pretty confusing at first, so hopefully this document will address some common concerns or questions.

How can I improve my chances at becoming a mentee?

Naturally, different mentors are looking for different things, so keep that in mind. On the forum post you can find the mentor listing near the signup links. It'll give you a good idea of a mentor's availability and what they want in a mentee. Try to find a mentor whose mentoring style suits you and who's looking for a mentee like you. It's also pretty important when applying that you specify which mentors you want to apply for. It will greatly improve your chances, as mentors usually only look at the apps directed towards them. Lastly, it may be a good idea to try to approach the mentor(s) you're applying for, and strike up a conversation. Aim to make a good introduction.

How do I make a new application? Can I resubmit?

At any point you can make a new application and resubmit with new information. Mentors will only look at your latest application. Also, it's recommended that you save the info you put in your app unless you want to rewrite it everytime.

How do I know when a mentor has selected me? If I'm not, will I get a message?

Your application status is always visible on your dashboard here on the site. If you're selected, an invite appears right on your dashboard (and you'll get a Discord DM linking you to it once the bot is set up) — you accept or decline it there. If you aren't selected, you'll simply see that on your dashboard; accepted mentees are also posted in #announce.

I wasn't accepted into the program, what can I do now?

Signups sometimes reopen mid-cycle for a few mentors, and your application stays in the pool, so you may be picked during one of those phases. You're also free to hang around and ask for help in #lobby/#mania.

What are these class roles people have?

Classrooms are private channels between mentors and their mentees, as well as anyone else they choose to invite. They can serve any purpose, and often those in classes form tight knit groups. Don't be surprised if you see some classroom pride.

Can I participate in events?

For the mapping contests, only mentees and former mentees are allowed to enter. If you're a mentor and interested in judging, contact an organizer. For feedback lobbies, mentees and mentors are allowed to participate. Currently there are no events that include guest participation.

Why is VC push to talk only?

In order to reduce the amount of noise in voice channels, push to talk is required. Being osu! and all, KB spam isn't too uncommon. Q: How can I get the most value out of Mentorship? For Mentees: Take every opportunity you have to ask your mentor questions and setup sessions with them. It is your job to take as much advantage out of the opportunity as you can. In addition, you can always post maps or get different perspectives from the feedback lobbies and #mapping. Any discussions or contests are also great learning opportunities, they'll be posted in #announce. For Guests: First and foremost, not everyone you meet here, regardless of how they may act, knows what they're doing. A lot of the guests and mentees are fairly inexperienced mappers themselves, so take any mods/feedback/advice they have with a grain of salt. If you're looking for useful and reliable information, many of the organizers and mentors in the program are willing to help you out. Make good use of #lobby or #mania as well. Hopefully that clears up some potential concerns you may have about the program. A lot of the more technical aspects of the program can be found on the forum post. Preferred Mentee Skill Level

(we chose this naming because any terminology would be twisted around)  • Tier 0 — needs to work on basic fundamentals such as spacing, rhythm, etc  • Tier 1 — people that know some fundamentals and struggle putting that into practice and have room to improve  • Tier 2 — knows most fundamentals but needs work on finetuning and more advanced concepts Organizers evaluate every picked mentee's tier (two evaluations, then finalized); mentors list which tiers they're open to on the mentor listing.
